Muscle Restitution & Boycotted Knitting

Today has been an amazing day with just the most fantastic weather.  I really wish I was in the mountains with my other half right now, on an amazing skiing vacation, complaining of sore muscles!

Speaking of sore muscles, I can barely walk after the PT session yesterday! Ha ha :)
It was about time to have those legs doing some serious work, and work they did.  Whoa! Yesterday was all about legs and back, and today is all about one thing: restitution

It's so important to make sure the muscles have time to get on their feet before the next heavy duty strength session.  Feed them proteins and small portions of healthy carbs and they will thank you for it by getting bigger and stronger.

Take care of your body, and it will take care of you.  :)

I mentioned not long ago that I've finally changed focus over to muscle building instead of weight loss, and it's great.

Every morning now I start the day with home made warm oatmeal with sweetener and cinnamon, a big glass of chocolate protein shake and some coffee. Not really hard to be healthy when this is what needs eating, seriously.  It's really yummy, and so quick and easy to prepare!  It's almost like having a really tasty desert for breakfast.  Best meal of the day! :)

Today I paired breakfast with a fitness magazine named Shape Up.  I have to say I was positively surprised!  I really have to say that this magazine seemed like it had more knowledgeable writers then other similar magazines I've read. The presentation and articles were professionally presented and interestingly written.
As you can see, Tifa liked it too!  So all in all, wonderful magazine - apparently it tastes great as well...  ;)

My adorable little Tifa seems to be boycotting my knitting plans... Maybe she's hinting that it's time to pick up the pencil again?  ;)

MY FIRST CINEMAGRAPH

//It's official, I've made my first ever cinemagraph, and strangely enough it is of Tifa, occupying my desk as always! :)
It's not easy to get these babies perfect, but it's so much fun when it works out.  Can't wait to make more!

The file is pretty big, so give it some time to load, and before you know it you have a "LIVE" version of Tifa blinking at you. //

The Big Brownie Experiment!

I had to have something sweet.... there was just no way around it...

So, since I was going to have something caloric one way or another, I figured I might as well do my best to make it as healthy as possible.

I didn't have much around, and the stores were closed... what to do.  Didn't really have a lot of ingredients for anything at all really, so baking from scratch wasn't really an option.

Luckily for me I found a  low-carb brownie mix that I could use, all the way in the back of the closet.  Last time when I tried it I remember I was thinking; Hmmm, sure, it's good... but how can I make it better?

So, this time around I got creative, and the result is absolutely awesome! Seriously, I could eat the whole thing in one go! Yum!

I followed the recipe on the bag, but decided to add some of my own ingredients to add something to make the brownies a bit more healthy, at least in my opinion.

I added two types of protein powder to the mix, both chocolate and neutral.  I did this after I had added the wet to the mix so that I had a better idea of the final consistency.  I had no measures to go by, so I kept adding until I felt that the brownie mix was starting to feel more solid.  At the end I added four tsp of liquid sweetener to the mix as well, which made it even more tasty.

It turned out perfect!  It still kept the dense texture and feel of the brownie, but it wasn't as sticky as the last time.  It felt a bit lighter.

Now I was left with a problem - the frosting!  What on earth to do for a frosting?  Now this is where the total randomness starts.  After digging through fridge and closets, I managed to find some potentially usable ingredients.  Dark Cocoa powder,  Icing Sugar replacement, skim milk, Stevia English toffee and a bag of powdered low sugar vanilla sauce.

I had no idea if this was going to work...

I started with the vanilla sauce.
Instead of adding the 7.5 dl of milk to it, I added only 2 dl of milk instead.  I wouldn't want it to get too liquid.  While I was waiting for it to boil and thicken, I added several topped tbsp of dark cocoa powder.  I kept adding until I was satisfied with the rich chocolate flavour.

The mix thickened, and then I added six drops of the Stevia English toffee that I stirred in.

When the mix had thickened, and I had stirred it for a few minutes, the taste was really intense.  At this point I added the Icing Sugar replacement until the taste was right.

Voila!  Perfect icing for the brownie!

Above you see the initial result, when it's still warm.  Yummmm!  It actually get's even better after a night in the fridge as you can see below.

Ooooh, chocolate brownie love   I'm still amazed at how incredibly good it turned out.  Seriously, if you have the chance, try it out! A healthier version of a brownie - what's not to love?  :)

...Having this thing out of the fridge is seriously damaging my dinner today!  Chocolate brownie for dinner?  Does that sound like a good idea?  :P

Tifa and I wish you a great Saturday!

Deadlift & Progresssion

Wow, it was an early morning today, and now I'm just totally beat.  Absolutely exhausted.

My favorite coffee cup from Starbucks New York ♥ A really great companion in the early hours.

I did manage to pull of a really good session with my PT today - and he seriously had my legs pulling some serious weight. I even felt a tad shaky after!  Gotta love it!

On the work-out program for this morning was all the nice big and heavy exercises, and his goal was to have me crawling out of there as we agreed last session.  He didn't quite succeed, but he was getting there for sure ;)

I have to admit that I'm a bit proud after the session...  *blush*  I set a new personal record in Deadlift!  Remember how I mentioned some time ago that my PT was considering increasing the weight to 75kgs?  Well, today he increased it to 80kgs, aaaand I managed!  Wheeee!  *Happydaaance*

Todays Workout:
Treadmill: 30 minutes, incline 12, speed 6 (with my short legs = a pulse of 170 in 10 min)

Deadlift: 50-60-70 & 80kgs

Leg Set x2:
- Leg extensions max out
- Barbell Squats 30 kgs max out
- Kettlebell Lunges 8x2 kgs max out

(Now that, and only a break after a finished set... my legs absolutely felt that one.  Nice and tough way of doing legs.)

Chest Super set:
Chest Press Barbell 30 kgs max out
Flyes 6 kgs max out

A shot of my barbell filled up with 80kgs! :)

I just have to mention that even though some have asked for progress pictures, I'm just not that comfortable with posing in front of a camera and putting tons of pictures of myself at the blog, at least not for now.  It isn't a big deal, but I think I'll wait just a while longer.
I'll post in the future - I promise!  :)

In not long I'll probably be posting the results from my in-body tests however!  Showing in numbers exactly what's been happening - before and after.  I'm really exited to see the results!  In a month or two perhaps.  It's gonna be good.  :)

I'll be testing out another muffin recipe either today or tomorrow that I'll post on the blog if It's "approved".  I only bother posting the ones I like.  Some more healthy goodness with some protein on top.  ;)

So I've feed the birds outside in the cold, Tifa has gotten her tuna, Cloud has gotten his chicken snacks, and I have finished my protein shake of the day.  Now I'm going to quite literally go over and collapse in the sofa.
Time for me and the VM sweater to have another chat.  I've finally started to get the main pattern underway. :)

Aight, have a good one guys and gals!

Yoga with a Helping Paw

Even though my day didn't go quite as planned today, it still ended up being a productive one.
I did tons of errands that needed doing - all in all a good day.

I finally made up my mind and even went and picked out yarn for my next sweater!  I'll show you tomorrow ;)

I had a nice long home work-out today as I didn't finish my daily program until when the gym closed.

Today's Home Workout:
Warmup: 20 Burpees
Power Yoga: 24 minutes
Kettlebell squats
Kettlebell rows
Kettlebell swings
Yoga for Abs: 26 minutes

As you can see Tifa wanted to join in on the fun as well, so I had an excellent Yoga assistant today.  Let's say I got a mouthful of fur on my first "Downward Dog"...

After dinner today I'll make sour cream waffles!  ....You know me, I'm a sucker for waffles.

This is the first time I'm making the sour cream version, and they're also low-carb.  Hmmmm... wonder if I need to spice them up with some protein?  I'll let you know how they turn out.

Do you know of any great protein waffle recipes?

Hope you guys are having a great weekend!

PICTURE MOMENTS - VIKINGS THROUGH AN IPHONE

I haven't been able to go through the shots I took with my new Nikon just yet, but there were actually quite a few shots taken with my iPhone that turned out pretty OK that I'll share for now.  :)

The festival was really well put together, and apparently smaller then previous years - good thing for me that this was my first time going, so I was more then happy with the size and result this year.

A huge bonus this year on the other hand was their newly opened Viking Hall - it looked absolutely amazing.  Really well done, and thankfully fairly historically accurate.

Want more info on the Viking Festival at Borre?  Pop by their homepage //HERE.

Later, I'll show you my loot!  ;)   Alright, so enjoy the shots peeps!

Special Viking Edition of lame reflection Selfie!  ;)  Awesome (and really shiny) looking helmet though.

One of the many beautifully made costumes

Leather goods for sale

The hairiest shield I've ever seen...

Smithing - Viking style

The beautiful Viking Hall

Love the Urnes inspired entry

*FANFARE*   And it was time for epic viking battles (in 30 degrees C)

Taunting in progress

And then there was duelling!  Looked pretty good too actually - positively surprised to say the least.

Here is one of the Instagram videos I made while I was there.  Not very good quality I'm afraid, but you get the idea.  Kinda fun.  :)
If you want to se more pictures and videos by the way, you can check out my Instagram account over in the right field on the blog, or go directly //HERE.

When the epic battle was over, we decided to head homewards, but before we reached our car, we stumbled across the National Park in Borre.
Such a beautiful park, filled with large oak trees - one of the most beautiful things I know - old, large trees.

One of the many burial mounds

The largest oak was far away on a field outside the park - so beautiful

When we came home I was basically jumped by a slightly offended Tifa, that decided that from there on out, I had no business going anywhere, thank you very much!  She basically sat on me for the rest of the day

"Mommy ain't going nowhere!  Just sayin, no funny business, or else..." - Tifa
